Police officers know that with warmer weather, some crimes tend to increase -- and the crime of burglary falls into that category.
In recent days, two buildings in the downtown area of White Salmon were the target of burglaries -- the White Salmon Community Youth Center at 453 E. Jewett and Klickitat Pottery at 264 E. Jewett.
The burglary at the pottery store was reported on March 28. The thief or thieves gained entry and stole a CD player and CDs, and other miscellaneous items.
According to the police report, the items stolen were valued at approximately $130.
In the Youth Center burglary, which happened the weekend of March 27-28, a thief or thieves broke out a window at the back of the building to gain entry. Some cash and candy was stolen, and there was some vandalism to an office in the facility.
The police reported that the Youth Center thefts amounted to about $150 in value, and there was approximately $100 in damage during the crime.
The Bingen-White Salmon Police Department is continuing its investigation into the crimes. Anyone with information on these cases can call the Police Department at 493-1177, and the identity of the caller can remain anonymous.
Police Chief Bruce Brending requested that citizens keep an eye out for and report any suspicious activity, and reminded residents to keep their vehicles and homes locked.
"While we're still a small town, we have the same problems as anybody else," Brending said.
