Join the Inn of the White Salmon as it showcases the works of local artists Christine Knowles and Gianna Scannel on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 4 to 5 p.m.
You can meet the artists and view their artwork at the Inn's "Hallway Gallery."
Knowles, who paints the landscapes of the Gorge, explains that she works with pastels "because I love its simplicity of application, vibrancy of color and ease of mark making. With pastel I can express the strong muscularity of Eastern hill shapes as well as the subtle cloudscapes of the Cascades."
Scannell chose to live in White Salmon because the beauty of this area reminded her of her native Northern Italy, where she began to use oil on canvas at the age of seven. "There are plenty of opportunities for inspiration here, and all I have to do is drive to work every day," says Skyline Hospital's only surgeon. Though she enjoys landscapes, her subjects vary: animals, people and man-made features are great sources.
Following the artist reception the Inn will be hosting its "Warm up with wine" event from 5 to 7 p.m., featuring North Shore Wine Cellars.
Admission to the wine tasting is $10, which also includes appetizers and music by local musician Spruce Baugher.
