During its Jan. 7 meeting, the White Salmon City Council approved the new composition for its various committees.
Mayor David Poucher suggested the appointments, subject to approval by the council members. The council voted 4-0 to agree to the mayor's selections.
Effective for 2009, the committees will be comprised as follows:
Chair Leana Johnson, Brad Roberts; Alternate, Ricky Marx
Human Resources Committee (Fire, Police, Personnel, Union and Non-Union):
Chair Bob Landgren, Leana Johnson; Alternate, Brad Roberts
City Operations Committee (Water, Wastewater, Health, Sanitation, Streets)
Chair Brad Roberts, Mark Peppel; Alternate, Bob Landgren
Business Partners Committee (Tourism):

Annexation Committee (Land use, real estate):
Chair Bob Landgren, Brad Roberts; Alternate, Mark Peppel
Parks & Recreation Committee (Pool):
Chair Bob Landgren, Ricky Marx; Alternate, Mark Peppel
Chair Leana Johnson, Mark Peppel
In other personnel moves, the City Council voted 4-0 to make Brad Roberts the city's "mayor pro tem," meaning Roberts will serve as mayor during times Mayor Poucher is not able to perform the mayor's duties.
"If something happens to me, Brad would step in and serve as acting mayor until a new mayor is chosen," Poucher explained.
Poucher added that he believes the naming of Roberts was a wise move by the council members.
"That was a very good choice," Poucher said. "It's just a very nice compliment to Brad with all the work he's done, and shows the confidence and support he has."
The mayor pro tem is selected on a yearly basis by the council members. Council member Richard Marx served as mayor pro tem in 2008.
