Castle Rock girls edge CHS in Trico Division opener

Castle Rock got balanced scoring and played solid defense here last Friday in defeating Columbia High, 45-41, in the SWW 1A League Trico Division opener for both teams.

The Rockets (5-2 overall) outscored the Bruins (6-4) in every quarter but the fourth and held leads of 16-11, 25-19 and 37-29 at each break in the action.

Lacey Kruse paced the Bruins with 20 points, 13 rebounds and six steals on a night CHS committed a season-low 13 turnovers and won the rebound battle, 35-27, but attempted only seven free throws and made three.

Adrianne DeLay added eight points, five rebounds and three assists, Rachel Connolly chipped in six points, and Laurel Huth contributed with four rebounds and five assists.

The Bruins won their second-straight non-league game Jan. 6, beating the host Panthers for a sweep of their season series.

Lacey Kruse led the way with 15 points, 14 rebounds and five steals, Michelle McMillen supplied 14 points and four steals, and Adrianne DeLay had six points and five assists for CHS, which led 12-1 after one quarter and by double digits until the last period.

At Washougal 43, Columbia High 35:

The Bruins completed their non-league schedule Jan. 6 with a loss of their rematch with the Panthers.

The setback was Columbia's second in a row and third in its last four games, leaving it at 6-4 entering the start of SWW 1A League Trico Division play.

Adam Tippel led the Bruins with nine points and Carlos Mendoza, held to single digits in scoring for the first time in nine games, added seven.
