The Horizons Steering Committee will be meeting on July 9 to begin the next phase which will be the visioning of future projects for the community.

July 13, at 7 p.m. is the next meeting for the "OLESS" who are continuing to work with the school board. Concerns about the preservation of the old elementary building will be the topic. The community needs to come with ideas on its restoration and uses as a Community Activity Center. Everyone is welcome!

Many enjoyed the July 4 by attending Mary Sorensen's annual barbeque at her home in Dallesport.

Others enjoyed the barbeque at the Lyle Fire Hall. This event has taken place for around 20 years, keeping the fire fighters in town for any emergency that might occur. It brings many of the community together in a united effort to have fun and have a safe holiday.

Soon the little white church on the hill will be sporting a new look in the fellowship hall and a face lift in the sanctuary. A spiffy new paint job will be done in a week or so, the re- furbishing is due to a renewed energy of the congregation. All are cordially invited to attend and hear a true southern gentleman preach an inspiring sermon on 10 a.m. Sunday for church and 9 a.m. for the Adult Seekers group. (Lyle United Methodist.)

Excerpts from the book "Early History of Klickitat County" by Jim Attwell 1977: "The chief drawback to its growth has been the fact that until recently it was impossible to buy a building site, as the town property was withheld from sale by the Balfours, who bought out Mr. Lyle in 1892. These gentleman sold all the land lying between the river and the railroad to the Columbia River and Northern Railroad Company, a short time ago, however, for twenty-two thousand dollars, and this tract has been placed on the market at from two hundred and fifty to five hundred dollars a lot, so that the greatest obstacle to progress has been removed. The Balfours still own all the land along the north side of the track."

Ponderisms: Why is there light in the fridge and not in the freezer?
