Report for Oregon State Police

A Carson woman was arrested by Oregon State Police (OSP) Thursday afternoon following an incident in which she allegedly drove recklessly while attempting to elude a trooper westbound on Interstate 84 east of Portland. After being stopped and placed into custody, she assaulted another trooper before being transported and lodged at the Multnomah County Jail.

On May 28, 2009, at approximately 5 p.m. a driving complaint was phoned in to OSP Northern Command Center dispatch of a silver Kia Sedona traveling in excess of 100 mph westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 38. Witness information advised the car collided with the concrete median and almost flipped.

OSP Recruit Trooper Jose Cortez spotted the car westbound near milepost 22, obtained a speed reading of 90 mph and attempted to stop it near milepost 19. The female driver failed to yield and continued westbound between 60 to 70 mph.

Cortez activated the siren but the driver failed to stop and continued driving, at times recklessly, until finally stopping near milepost 15 in the Wood Village area.

Upon contacting the driver, identified as Jessica Ann Smiley, 27, Carson, Cortez noted signs of impairment and subsequently arrested her for reckless driving and felony attempt to elude a police officer.

Smiley was very combative and allegedly kicked another trooper in the face while she was seated in the back of the OSP patrol car. On the way to jail she continued kicking the patrol car doors and windows while another OSP officer followed to assist, if needed.

Smiley was lodged on the following charges: felony attempt to elude an officer in a vehicle, DUII, reckless driving, assaulting a public safety officer.

She was also cited for exceeding the speed limit to wit: 90 mph in a 65 mph speed zone.

An Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic stop Tuesday in Cascade Locks led to the discovery and seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine and cash.

According to OSP Lieutenant Patrick Ashmore, on May 26, 2009, at approximately 11 p.m. an OSP senior trooper stopped a suspected DUII driver in the Cascade Locks area.

During contact with the driver, identified as Antonio Cervantes Castellanos, 55, The Dalles, the trooper saw him attempt to conceal something which was later identified as a small amount of cocaine. Despite his efforts to resist arrest, he was taken into custody.

Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of approximately two ounces of methamphetamine, a quarter pound of cocaine, and nearly $1,450 cash.

He was lodged at the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility (NORCOR) in The Dalles for: unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance -- cocaine; unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance -- methamphetamine.

NORCOR advised he bailed out pending an appearance in Hood River County Circuit Court.
