High Prairie re-opening for Miles of Yard Sales

The annual 13+ Miles of Yard Sales event is this weekend, and High Prairie will be open for business again. After a record sale of their own last month, the High Prairie community is once again sorting and pricing new donations, setting up the bratwurst grill, and baking pies and cookies. They’re one of the few Yard Sale locations to be offering food as well as bargains. They’ll also have tables available for other vendors.

High Prairie’s May 16 and 17 Firehouse Sale has been hailed as the best one ever. A new expanded location meant better organization and parking. A barn full of rummage tables and a silent auction, live music, the smell of grilling bratwurst, booths with crafts and information, and a fire truck and kids’ game—and of course the perfect sunny weather—all joined to create a wonderful festival atmosphere.

The raffle of a beautiful handcrafted quilt made and donated by the High Prairie Needlers brought in almost $800. It was won by an ecstatic Carol Hayward of The Dalles. The sale’s first full silent auction was a success, too, bringing in $2,450.

In total, the Firehouse Sale brought in just short of a record-breaking $11,000 for the High Prairie Community Council and Fire District #14. That’s the mark they’re hoping to top with sales from the 13+ Miles of Yard Sales event this weekend.

The High Prairie sale location is about 7.5 miles up Centerville Highway from Lyle. To get there from Lyle, turn between the gas station and the Country Cafe and follow Centerville Highway. From Highway 97, turn onto Centerville Highway about 5 miles south of Goldendale and follow it west.

In its seventh year, the 13+ Miles of Yard Sales event links multiple yard sales from multiple towns on the same weekend. Maps Programs are available listing participating towns, individual yard sale addresses, and brief lists of what’s being offered. For more information, go to the event’s website,
