Congressman Doc Hastings announced that Michelle McMillen of White Salmon has been accepted into the 2013 graduating class of the United States Naval Academy.
Michelle McMillen, daughter of Michael and Priscilla MCMillen, is scheduled to graduate from Columbia High School in 2009. An outstanding scholar, McMillen is currently ranked second in her class, earning numerous awards for academic excellence.
She has also proven herself on the athletic field with strong leadership and a sense of teamwork. A four sport varsity athlete, McMillen played soccer, basketball, track and softball during her high school career, and was named captain of the basketball and track teams.
She has also served as class vice president and yearbook editor.
"My congratulations go out to Michelle and her family," said Congressman Hastings. "Michelle's outstanding high school record and extracurricular activities have proven her worthy of admission to the United States Naval Academy, where she will join Academy graduates like President Jimmy Carter, Admiral Stansfield Turner, Ross Perot and Senator John McCain. It is truly a privilege and an honor for me to announce that Michelle McMillen has been accepted to the Naval Academy I know that America's armed forces can use women like Michelle in their ranks and that she will make an excellent cadet and an outstanding officer."
