Lyle/Wishram’s Mike Eiesland struck out 16 South Wasco County (Ore.) batters last Saturday in recording the first no-hitter of his prep career.
The senior right-hander (1-0) faced four batters over the minimum—he walked three and hit one—in the Cougars’ 9-0 victory in the first game of a non-league double-header in Lyle.
“Mike’s still in early season form,” noted Cougars Coach Scott Myers. “Come mid-season, he should be looking really good.”
Lyle/Wishram staked Eiesland to a 2-0 lead after the bottom of the second inning, then added a run in the third, two in the fourth and four in the sixth to finish off the visiting Redsides.
The Cougars capitalized on seven Redsides errors, six walks and five hits, including a pair of doubles.
Trey Kitchens drove in two runs with a double, and Eiesland, Mike Murphy and Dylan Davis each hit a run-scoring single.
The second game of the double-header was called after four innings, with Lyle/Wishram leading 6-3, because of rain. Myers said he didn’t know if the contest would be rescheduled.
At Lyle/Wishram 5, Stevenson 4: The Cougars erased a 4-2 deficit with a three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning of last Wednesday’s season-opening non-league game.
Dylan Davis preserved the lead and picked up the win in relief of starter Mike Eiesland. Davis (1-0) allowed one run and one hit, and walked one in three innings of work.
Trey Kitchens knocked in two runs, while Dillon Huffman and Kiele Wiseman both singled to drive in runs.
