In appreciation of the support of the local community, the Discovery Center invites the public to attend Community Appreciation Day and Mother's Day Brunch, Sunday, May 10.
Admission will be waived for all local residents to enjoy the exhibits, raptor programs, wildflower tours, and photo presentation.
In addition, native plants will be offered for sale by Milestone Nursery and brunch will be available in the Basalt Rock Cafe.
Brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This event is also an opportunity to learn about the live raptors at the Discovery Center. Free programs are scheduled for 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
Tours of the museum's blooming fields of wildflowers along the handicap-accessible paths will be led by native plant specialist Barbara Robinson.
At 2 p.m. there will be a free one-hour slide show by Hood River geologic photographer Darryl Lloyd on the local volcanoes we know as Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams. He will discuss both historic and recent geologic activity, and explain how climate change has impacted Mt. Hood's glaciers, and what scientists have revealed about Eliot Glacier, Oregon's largest.
