Gregoire appoints WGAP's Schneider to state council

Appointee is truly honored

Gov. Chris Gregoire has appointed Linda Schneider, executive director of Bingen-based Washington Gorge Action Programs (WGAP), to the State Advisory Council on Homelessness.

The council consists of 20 members, all appointed by the governor. The members represent private businesses, non-profit organizations, public housing authorities, cities, counties, the federal government, young people, and the homeless.

The purpose of the council is to make recommendations to the governor on ways to enhance the state's response to the needs of the homeless; increase awareness of homeless issues within the state; and work toward integrating the state's approach to homeless issues. Most important, the council promotes the public's resolve to end homelessness.

Schneider has worked for WGAP for over 20 years, and managed the agency's shelter programs for most of that time.

Schneider said she is "truly honored by the appointment" and hopes she can call attention to rural homeless issue.
