Underwood burglaries continue

Watch your neighbors' homes

The problems the Underwood area has been having with daytime residential burglaries are apparently not going away.

According to a notice from the Underwood Community Council, the latest "daring daylight burglary" happened on Monday, May 11, between 6:45 a.m.-5 p.m. The burglary was at a house on Cook-Underwood Road, just east of Kramer Road.

"The house sits quite close to Cook-Underwood Road, and the victims are hoping somebody saw something that will be helpful," explained Underwood Community Council Chair Sally Newell. "As with the burglary off of Cooper Avenue earlier this year, the thieves targeted small electronics and jewelry -- things they could stuff into a backpack and scamper off with."

Newell is urging residents to report anything that looked out of the ordinary on that day -- or at any other time -- to the Skamania County Sheriff's Office. "If you saw anything -- a car stopped to pick up a passenger, a stranger in the neighborhood -- especially with a bag or backpack -- anything that looked a little odd or out of the ordinary to you, please call the Sheriff's Office," Newell said. "Our best defense against these creeps is paying attention to all that we see in our comings and goings."

The Skamania County Sheriff's Office can be reached at (509) 427-9490.
