Slower news week this week. As the year progresses towards summer apparently more time is being devoted to enjoying the beautiful weather which we have been having recently and less to more work-like activities.
School board positions 2 and 3 are up for election this year. People interested in being a candidate for either of these positions must file between June 1 and 5. Contact the Klickitat County Auditors Office at 773-4001 for information about how to file. These positions do not require a filing fee according to the Auditor's Web site which is found at wei.secstate.wa.gov/klickitat. Also up for election are three fire commissioner positions. Serving in one of these positions is a wonderful opportunity to help the community function.
Each year the Trout Lake Fair Board makes donations to local groups from the money made by the fair, after expenses of course. This year the board donated money to the DI Team, the Grange, the Cabin Fever Festival, and the school trip to Greece. Money for donations becomes available each fall. If your organization is interested in obtaining a grant, in the fall watch the column and the bulletin board at the Grange for information about the application process.
The Trout Lake Yellow Pages section of the Fair booklet needs to be updated. Please review your listing and contact Sarah at 395-2669 to have it revised. If your business is not listed, please contact Sarah to be listed.
The refurbishing of the Grange is making great progress. Thanks to Dale and the volunteers the dinning room and bathrooms have been painted. The floor is being refinished and it is hoped it will be done by the May 30 performance by Lincoln Crockett and Jim McKeon. People who have seen the finished section describe it as gorgeous. The kitchen renovation is proceeding and the hope is it that it will be finished by the start of Saturday Market at the end of June. More volunteers are needed to help with the kitchen. If you can help contact Dave Wampler during the day at 395-2323.
The Crockett/McKeon performance at the Grange starts at 6 p.m. with a potluck. The music starts at 6:30. The cost is $8. Fun to have an event to attend here locally in Trout Lake.
The Community Foundation Penny Drive ends soon. Unfortunately donations are off this year. Please search your pockets and piggy banks for change and make a donation. A burst of donations might bring at least as much money as last year. Remember all donations go to support the education of a Trout Lake student. It is satisfying to be a part of the effort to help Trout Lake students be successful.
The Mount Adams Country Bicycle Tour is happening for the seventh time this year on July 11. It is becoming quite a Trout Lake tradition. For more information go to the Trout Lake Web site.
