Local wineries, off Old Highway 8, will be hosting open houses during Thanksgiving weekend. The wineries participating are: Domaine Pouillon, Syncline, Cor Cellars and Memaloose. Also taking part is Jacob William in downtown Lyle. If you bring a donation of a non-perishable food item, for the Washington Gorge Action Program in Bingen, the tasting is free.

Monday, Nov. 30, is the next meeting for the "OLEES" at 7 p.m. at the Lyle Activity Center. The group will be finalizing its by-laws and working on policies and procedures. The community is encouraged to come and become involved.

Friday, Dec. 4, is the "Game Night" at the Lyle Activity Center. Look for more information on posters about town.

The Dallesport Community Council and Fire Department will hold the next bazaar. The 6th annual Christmas Bazaar will be held on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5. It will be at the log building on Highway 197 (Columbia Hills RV Park) from 9-5 on Friday and 9-4 on Saturday. Monies collected from the table rental and sales of food will go to the "Children's Christmas and Fire Awareness Program." If you have questions call Alice at (509) 767-4077.

Monday, Dec. 14, there will be a "Holiday Coffee House" at 7 p.m. after basketball practice, at the Lyle High School cafeteria. Music will be by the high school chorus, the jazz band, some solos and maybe Mrs. Bales and the guitar guys from senior meals. Hopefully, Ellie and her crew and maybe "Mach 7," the high school rock band. Martin will be serving coffee, hot chocolate, cookies, and if you bring a dessert he will help serve that too.

The Lion's Club will be serving the first Saturday of the month breakfast on Dec. 5 from 7 to 10 a.m.

The Lyle Hotel will be having an open house on Sunday, Dec. 13. Watch here for further details.

Excerpts from Bingen Observer May 13, 1910; "Lyle to have Church Building -- A council of recognition of the Congregational Church will hold a meeting at Lyle today, to consider the proposition of organizing a church and building and building a structure at that place. Pastors from White Salmon, The Dalles, Superintendent of the Washington Home Missionary Society, W.W. Scudder of Seattle, Rev. Green, Superintendent of the Congregational Home Missionary and Publishing Society and Pastors from Underwood and Hood River are expected to be present."
