Report for Washington State Patrol



Two women were injured in a one-vehicle accident on Oct. 12, 2009, at approximately 10:50 a.m. The accident occurred on State Route 14 at milepost 20, 17 miles north of White Salmon.

According to the report, Bessie E. Oneal, 72, Bingen, was driving her 2005 ford Freestyle northbound on SR 141. She lost control of the vehicle on black ice and it went off the southbound shoulder. The vehicle came to rest in the ditch.

Oneal suffered a laceration to her hand and had stomach pains. Her passenger, Berdina B. Bylsma, 83, Trout Lake, suffered a cut to her hand and had soreness. Both women were transported to Skyline Hospital in White Salmon.

One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Sr 14 at milepost 47, 2.5 miles east of Stevenson.

According to the report, Melissa A. Alway, 25, Carson, was driving her 1996 Toyota 4-runner eastbound on SR 14, when she crossed over the centerline. A 1996 Dodge Dakota driven by Melissa R. Bernt, 40, North Bonneville, was headed westbound. Bernt swerved to avoid Alway's vehicle, lost control of her car and it impacted the guardrail on the south shoulder. The Dodge came to rest blocking both lanes.

Neither Alway nor Braxton P. Maddux, 3, a passenger in Alway's vehicle, were injured. Bernt suffered injury to her right shoulder and left hand. She was transported to Skyline Hospital in White Salmon.

Alway was charged with failure to drive on the right side of the road.
