UCD celebrates Arbor Day with open house, free trees

First come, first served

On Wednesday, April 14,starting at 9 a.m., Underwood Conservation District (UCD) is celebrating Washington's Arbor Day by giving away tree seedlings.

Residents of the district can stop by the UCD office in White Salmon (170 NW Lincoln St in the Park Center Building) or the Chamber of Commerce (167 2nd Street) in downtown Stevenson to receive up to 10 free seedlings.

This is a first come, first serve opportunity. Species available include Douglas fir, Grand Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Giant Sequoia, Noble Fir, Western Larch (Tamarack) and Western White Pine while supplies last.

Not sure how to plant a tree? Experienced staff members can provide planting and maintenance instructions to insure that your native tree seedling will grow up to become a tree that future generations will appreciate.

The value of trees in our area is unquantifiable. Trees help to regulate climate and sequester carbon. Trees supply habitat for countless plants, animals, fungi and more. Trees provide materials for building homes, printing newspapers and thousands of other products. Trees are celebrated worldwide for the countless services they provide.

For more information, contact the UCD office at 493-1936.
