Windows broken in local crime spree

Keep eyes open

Better keep an eye on your windows.

According to the Bingen-White Salmon Police Department, there has been a rash of windows being broken in recent days. Police officials compiled a lengthy list of the many windows that had been broken. About a dozen residences in White Salmon suffered broken windows, and several businesses were also hit.

"Over the last two weekends, we have had several vehicle, business, and residential windows broken or shot out," said Police Chief Bruce Brending. "The dollar loss is in the thousands, and it mostly occurred in White Salmon. However, there have been a few in the county."

The Police Department reported that first incidents occurred on July 24, with the most recent reported on July 31.

The businesses targeted were Hi-School Pharmacy, Insitu, Bergstrom Eye Care, White Salmon Chiropractic, and Innovative Composite Engineering.

Also, Whitson Elementary School reported that three windows had been broken in separate incidents over a four-day period.

Brending said a pellet gun was being used in at least some of the breakages.

"We recovered aluminum pellets from some of the windows," Brending said.

Brending added that the crimes are apparently taking place during the night.

The Police Department is requesting that citizens and business owners be on alert. Anyone with any information on the case is urged to call the police office at 493-1177.
