Wednesday, Sept. 1, will be the first day of the 2010-11 school year in the White Salmon Valley School District according to the calendar approved by the district's board of directors.
The second week of the new school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
Other key dates on the 2010-11 calendar include: Parent Teacher Conferences at Columbia High and Henkle Middle schools, Oct. 12-15; Parent Teacher Conferences at Whitson Elementary School, Nov. 15-19; Winter break, Dec. 20-31; Semester break, Monday, Jan. 24; Parent Teacher Conferences at Columbia High and Henkle Middle schools, Feb. 15-18; Built-in Snow days on Friday, March 11, and Friday, April 22; Parent Teacher Conferences at Whitson Elementary School, March 14-18; State Testing at Columbia High School, March 15 (reading), March 16-17 (writing), March 22 (math; jrs. and srs. only) and April 13 (science); Spring break, April 4-8; Columbia High graduation, Saturday, June 11; and Last day of school, Tuesday, June 14.
Also, same as last year, all three schools will release students early on Wednesdays so teachers can participate in staff development programs. (Early dismissal at Whitson will be at 1:30 p.m.; at CHS and Henkle, 1:40 p.m.)
School hours for 2010-11 will be 8:15 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. at Whitson, and 8:15 to 3:10 at Henkle and Columbia.
