Bruins drop pair of pivotal Trico games

A two-game homestand last week failed to produce the results Columbia High’s varsity girls basketball team wanted.

The Bruins fell to the Ilwaco Fishermen on Jan. 26, 52-33, then lost to the Castle Rock Rockets, 49-37, last Friday in Miller Gym.

The setbacks dropped Columbia to 2-4 in SWW 1A Trico Division standings—good for fourth place—and 6-9 overall with four league games remaining on its 2009-10 slate. (CHS was at La Center Tuesday, then hosts Kalama on Friday.)

“We’re in the part of the season when it shows who truly wants to play,” Bruins Coach Kinzer Hough said. “We have to find it within ourselves to want to win.”

Columbia put itself in a position to win last Friday’s home game with a solid first-half effort at both ends of the court that culminated in a 19-19 tie at the intermission.

“Our defense kept us in it in the first half,” Hough noted.
