Klickitat County Fire District No. 3, which last year barred the Husum-BZ Corner Community Council from using the Husum fire station as a meeting place, has had a change of heart.
In early January, Fire District No. 3 informed the Community Council that the council could again use the local fire hall.
"After much discussion and review, the Fire Commissioners have agreed to provide the community councils use of the station facilities to hold their meetings without charge for insurance. The liability will be the district's responsibility," read an excerpt of a Jan. 5 letter, signed by Mollie Krall, district secretary.
Husum-BZ Corner Community Council chair Jim Tindall said he was grateful for the new policy.
"There has been a change in the chief of the Husum Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a new Fire Commissioner representing the Husum area," Tindall said. "I believe this new blood is the reason for the change in philosophy of Fire District No. 3 leadership. The Husum-BZ Corner Community Council is grateful."
