Burn bans take effect

In Klickitat, Skamania counties

The Klickitat County Commissioners have placed restrictions on outdoor burining within the unincorporated areas of Klickitat County.

Effective July 1, the issuance of burning permits is prohibited, except for authorized agricultural burning. Attended campfires will be allowed in the Mt. Adams-Guler County Park in Trout Lake within designated steel fire rings; however, the county reserves the right to ban at any time all campfires within the park during periods of extreme fire danger. Residential barbecues are allowed.

At the discretion of the fire chief, fire protection districts are exempt from the ban. Fire District 3 (Husum/Snowden) has already issued a burn ban that was effective June 1.

The burn ban will be in force through Sept. 30.

All burning allowed under the Skamania County Self-Issue Permit for small debris fires will no longer be valid after June 30. All current 2010 self-issue permits are now void.

New self-issue permits for small debris fires will be available as of Oct. 1.
