Mayor's walk receives great response

Checking in with businesses

On March 3, Betty Barnes, Mayor of Bingen, and Marsha Holliston, manager of the Mt. Adams Chamber of Commerce took a trek, going from business to business for the first of a quarterly "Mayor's Business Walk" organized by the chamber as part of a new program meant to expand the bridge of communication and opportunities with the local business community.

The afternoon's walk was the first for Barnes, who became mayor in January.

The "Mayor's Business Walk" program will take place quarterly with Mayor Barnes, along with the chamber, traveling to different businesses to extend a supporting hand and ask business owners/managers how the city and chamber can be more helpful.

The goal is to help increase communication, identify challenges and opportunities and foster business opportunities for local people.

"As the mayor, I can appreciate the challenges an entrepreneur faces in this business climate," said Barnes, "and I want to personally visit businesses to experience the day-to-day challenges our businesses face. I look forward to meeting business owners and their management staff. I am grateful the Mt. Adams Chamber organized this walk."
