Enjoy evening of Christmas music

In White Salmon and Hood River

Mid Columbia Community Choir invites the public to an evening of Christmas music on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the Riverside Community Church, 4th and State, Hood River.

The choir will repeat the performance on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church, 1280 W. Jewett, White Salmon.

The concerts are free, although an offering will be taken to benefit FISH Food Bank (Oregon) and the Pastor's Emergency Fund (Washington).

The choir will be performing NOEL, Night of Everlasting Joy.

"This Christmas Cantata, created and arranged by Derric Johnson, is a wonderful arrangement of music," said Perry Cole. "The audience will enjoy many of the traditional Christmas carols in this compilation of music."

In addition to the cantata, the choir will perform several additional Christmas pieces including, "Candlelight Carol," and "Breath of Heaven" by Amy Grant. Diana Beterbide will be at the piano accompanying the choir with Jo Herring and Stephanie Gross performing solos during the performance. Dennis Griffith will narrate.

"We're especially pleased to have Dawn Rankin, flautist, as our special guest." said Cole.

The Mid Columbia Community Choir has been in existence since 1989, when Bob Van Alstine formed the group. In 2001, Van Alstine retired and Perry Cole was named director of the Mid Columbia Community Choir in 2003.

There are 60 voices performing in the choir this year with members coming from all around the Mid Columbia region. Choir members have been practicing since Labor Day and are eager to share the sounds of Christmas with the community.
