Sheriff deputies ring sleigh bells

For the kids

The Klickitat Sheriff's Office "Operation Sleighbells-Give A Gift" project -- hosted by the sheriff's office employees, Klickitat County Search & Rescue volunteers, Sheriff Reserve Deputies and Mid-Columbia Police Activities League (PAL) -- far exceeded expectations in 2009.

The program is intended to ensure that children can still experience the joy of receiving something special during this mystical time of year.

In continuation of this project in 2010, the sheriff's office will again keep the magic of Christmas alive for the children throughout rural Klickitat County.

"We've expanded our program to include Santa Clause himself in his magical sleigh being escorted to rural communities by Klickitat County Sheriff deputies in their reindeer vehicles, led and guided by Rudolph, of course," said Eileen Porter. "Be sure the kids don't miss this chance to visit with Santa in his sleigh, whisper their wishes in his ear and receive a special treat."

According to his elves, Santa is scheduled for appearances at:

Dallesport, Dec. 13, 6-7 p.m., Dallesport Fire Department.

Bickleton, Dec. 14, 5-6:15 p.m., Klickitat County Shop.

Roosevelt, Dec. 14, 6:45-8 p.m., Roosevelt School or Mart.

Klickitat, Dec. 15, 5-6:15 p.m., Klickitat School.

Lyle, Dec. 15, 6:45-8 p.m., Lyle Community Center.

Glenwood, Dec. 16, 5-6:15 p.m., Glenwood School.

Trout Lake, Dec. 16, 6:45-8 p.m., Trout Lake School.

"Through the efforts of many volunteers and the very generous donations of local merchants and businesses, the children throughout the county will once more have a happier Christmas this year," Porter said.
