Columbia High sets schedule for homecoming week activities

"Living a Crazy Life" is the theme of Columbia High School's 2010 homecoming week, which kicks off next Monday morning with a general assembly in the grandstand and concludes next Friday night with coronation of the new homecoming king and queen.

Following is a rundown of next week's homecoming dress-up days and activities.

Monday, Oct. 4, is Color War Day. Students will assemble in the Bruin Stadium grandstand at 9:50 a.m. and take part in such contests as the shopping cart relay, car squeeze, jousting, hotdog eating and tug of war.

Tuesday, Oct. 5, is Gender Bender Day; Wednesday, Oct. 6, Would You By Friend If Day; Thursday, Oct. 7, Neon Dance Party Day; and Friday, Oct. 8, Spirit Day.

The highlights of midweek activities will be Wednesday's Homecoming Parade through downtown White Salmon and an evening bonfire at CHS.

The parade, featuring class floats, the homecoming court and a marching band, will begin at the Park Center at 10:50 a.m., while the bonfire, with cheers led by CHS cheerleaders, is set for 6:30 p.m.

Another general assembly will be held next Friday in Miller Memorial Gym, starting at 9:50 a.m. Competitions on tap include ships and sailors, dodge ball with toilet paper, root beer chugging and music mash/lip sync.

Homecoming week will culminate at halftime of this year's homecoming game between Columbia High and Ilwaco, with the crowning of a homecoming king and queen. A dance hosted by the junior class will follow the game.
