Glenwood is joining with Klickitat and Trout Lake high schools for a prom at the Hood River Elks on April 30. The theme for this year's prom is Casino Royale; and coronation of the kings and queens is scheduled for 10 p.m.

Sarah and Aaron Vorhis of Oxnard, Calif., welcomed their first child into the world on April 11. Rebekah Leigh weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and was 20 inches long at birth. Proud grandparents include Dennis and Darlene Humphrey of Glenwood and Mary Vorhis of Oceanside, Calif. Congratulations Sarah and Aaron!

Darrell Spies reported at the community council meeting on April 19 that the Glenwood Women's Club has asked if anyone would be willing to take over care of the Conboy Park. This would be a great project for a group wishing to do a good deed or community service. For more information, please contact Darrell at 364-3541.

Mr. Spies also announced that Mt. Adams Resource Stewards (MARS) and the Mt. Adams Snowmobile Club have taken over maintenance responsibilities for the Island Camp shelter and Bird Creek Campground. A cleanup day is scheduled for May 7 to spiff up those properties. Anyone interested in helping with the cleanup will be welcome! Darrell also encouraged everyone using either Island Camp or Bird Creek Campground to fill out the visitor surveys and leave them in the boxes that are provided on the premises. The surveys help determine the number of visitors utilizing those areas!

Teammates on the Glenwood Middle School track team will be on the road this week as they travel to Goldendale on April 28 and Arlington on April 29. The TLG High School track team has this week off but will travel to Yakima on Tuesday, May 3, for the Cadet JF Invitational. Good luck competitors!

The Glenwood Rodeo Association has scheduled a cleanup day, potluck lunch and meeting for Sunday, May 1, beginning at 10 a.m. The 77th Ketchum Kalf Rodeo is slated for Father's Day weekend; and the association members are busy readying the grounds for the annual event. All help is welcome!

Thursday, May 5, is the date for the annual Mother's Day Tea at the school. All mothers and grandmothers are invited to enjoy punch, coffee and cookies provided by the Public School Employees (PSE). As is tradition, mothers of the senior class will be recognized at the tea that will begin at 1 p.m. in the gym.

Community ladies are invited to attend the Pioneer Memorial Community Church's Sweet Thursday on May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room. Spring Tea is the theme for this event, and daughters are encouraged to accompany their mothers. This will be the final observation of Sweet Thursday until October. We hope to see you there!

The Class of 2011 is planning a woodcutting fundraiser on May 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Hancock Forest Management, Inc. land. This is a great opportunity to get your firewood so it will be nice and dry for the coming fall/winter. Proceeds from this event will help with expenses for the senior class educational trip. For questions, please contact Hancock Forest Management, Inc. at 364-3331; maps are available at the school also.

The Class of 2012 would like to thank the community for supporting its recent cinnamon roll fundraiser.
