Be thankful for what we have, support food drive, giving tree

Glenwood News for Dec. 8

By the

The holidays are a good time for us to be thankful for what we have; and to remember those who need a hand. The Glenwood community is generously supporting the annual canned-food drive at the school and church. Items can be dropped off until Dec. 20 at either location. A giving tree has been set up at The Mountain Inn this year. There are ornaments for boys and girls of various ages. You can select an ornament, purchase Christmas gifts suitable for that child, and return them to The Mountain Inn by Dec. 20. The donated gifts will be delivered along with the food baskets by the Pioneer Memorial Community Church (PMCC.) What a great opportunity to help local families to have a merrier Christmas!

Another annual event that we look forward to in Glenwood is the Scholastic Book Fair in the school library from Dec. 2 through 15. The Book Fair is open daily from 8 a.m. until 2:40 p.m. Elementary students will read to visitors during the Book Fair's Parents' Night on Dec. 7 beginning at 6 p.m. The Book Fair makes another excellent chance for local Christmas shopping for busy parents and grandparents!

Speaking of Christmas shopping...The Pioneer Memorial Community Church is offering a Parents Day Out on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Parents can drop their children off at the church for a day of fun, supervised-activities including crafts, movies, games and food. Meanwhile the parents can go shopping, work around the house or just enjoy a quiet day! The Parents' Day Out is a community service by the PMCC -- there is no charge to leave your children for the day. For questions, please contact John or Tina Jorgensen at 364-3598.

The Class of 2016 is cooking up a taco dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the school. Dinner will be served from 5 until 7 p.m. Why not enjoy a great taco meal and take in the Book Fair as well? The Class of 2016 is also selling raffle tickets for $1 on a Scentsy basket. Proceeds from the dinner and raffle will go toward their senior class educational trip.
