Conservation district offers seedlings

Order early for best selection

Are you ready to plant a tree or shrub seedling this spring?

If you are a resident or landowner in Skamania County or western Klickitat County, it's time to place your order for low cost native tree and shrub seedlings with Underwood Conservation District.

Underwood Conservation District (UCD) is currently accepting orders and will do so until March 1, 2012. Seedling pick-up will be Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24, in White Salmon.

A variety of species are available, including beautiful flowering shrubs that will attract beneficial insects to your garden, fire and drought resistant species, large trees that provide shade year round to your home or creek, and hardwoods to bring vibrant colors for you to enjoy each fall.

These low cost seedlings are 1-3 years old and are grown locally, so they will thrive in gorge conditions.

Free of cost, UCD helps landowners design stewardship plans for their property with advice on planting and thinning methods, planning for water and soil protection, improving wildlife habitat, planning for wildfire (Firewise) and much more.

UCD can help arrange for cost-share assistance in implementing projects protecting water quality or other natural resources.

UCD also has planting tools available for loan.

Plants must be ordered in a minimum of 10 per species. Large order quantity discounts are available.

For a description of the 19 tree and shrub species available, planting instructions or to get more information about UCD, please visit, call 493-1936 or stop by the office in the Park Center Building at 170 NW Lincoln St in White Salmon.

Quantities are limited so order early for best selection.
