Surprise party really a surprise

Glenwood News for May 12

By the

The Glenwood School was the site of a birthday party for Alta Valdez on Saturday, May 7. Alta has many secretive family and friends who kept the "surprise party" a true surprise! Alta's family provided a wonderful meal for those in attendance; and Grady Hallenbeck played several trumpet solos for entertainment. What a great celebration for a wonderful lady! Best wishes for many more happy birthdays, Alta!

Debbie Sanchey was honored with a baby shower on May 7 at the Glenwood Grange. Emma Lynn Sanchey who is expected on July 4 will have a nursery full of baby items waiting for her when she arrives! Congratulations to Greg and Debbie on their pending parenthood!

The Class of 2013 will be serving barbecue burgers and food concessions at the junior and high school track meets to be held in Glenwood on May 12 and 13. May 12 is the KCAA middle school league track meet scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Glenwood will be hosting the high school district meet on Friday, May 13 as well. Be sure to support the local track contestants; and enjoy a good barbecue meal at the same time.

Very sad news was received last week. Eileen Brashers' son, Chris Riley, died in an auto accident west of Glenwood. Chris' funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, at 1 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon. A memorial dinner will follow at the Glenwood School. Our sincere condolences go out to Eileen and her family.

Bo Arnold's families are in our thoughts as well. Bo lost both her grandmother, Ida Harris, and her aunt, Glenna Dragoo, last week. We are so sorry for your losses.

Pioneer Memorial Community Church's Youth Group is planning a yard sale and pancake feed on May 21 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Donated items for the yard sale will be accepted beginning May 16. This could be a great opportunity to clear the clutter at your house and to help the youth group raise funds for various outings. Or...on the other hand, it will be a good opportunity to find some great items to buy on the day of the sale. For information, please contact Pastor Butch or Jennifer Hallenbeck at 364-3517.

The Class of 2011 would like to thank the community for its support of the barbecue and wood-cutting fundraisers last week. Proceeds from these events will go toward the seniors' educational trip.
