A loving collection of Joyce Sauls' family and friends gathered in celebration of her 80th birthday on Saturday. Standing focal point on the gift table was a large vase filled with 80 long stem orange trimmed yellow roses to mark the occasion. Family came from southern California and around the northwest to honor her as matriarch of the family. Siblings shared many memories, one of which was of the journey that brought them to settle here in 1932 from Kansas.
I was surprised to already hear Christmas commercials on TV, until I realized that it is only seven weeks before the fat man in the red suit slides down our chimneys. In order to help you, and him, there are a couple of bazaars planned. The first one is the Annual Ladies Bazaar on Friday and Saturday, Nov 11-12, from 9 to 5, at the Activity Center. It has gotten bigger and better every year with a variety of hand crafted specialties by local artisans. You may still have a chance to sell your wares by calling Laurece Bonham 365-2011.
The second is the 8th Annual Dallesport Bazaar which will be Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3, from 9 to 4, at the Columbia Hills Log Building on Hwy 197. The Dallesport Community Council and Fire Department host it and sell chili, hot dogs, soda, and homemade cookies for lunch. Volunteers and donations are welcome. For more information contact Alice Mattox at 509-767-4077.
The Pretenders Dinner Theater is presenting "Love, Sex and the IRS" at the Lyle Grange on Nov.11-12 and 18-19. Doors open at 6:30, dinner at 7 and play starts at 7:30. To tantalize your taste buds, Marshall's Winery will have a selection of fine wines while Beneventi's caters the dinner for your overall great dining experience. Advance tickets are a must and can be purchased at Klindt's Booksellers in The Dalles and Country Cafe in Lyle.
OLESS (Old Lyle Elementary School Supporters) meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Lyle Activity Center, corner of 3rd and Klickitat streets. Board elections will be held at this meeting that all are welcome to attend. Minutes of previous meetings are available at http://lyleschoolbuilding.blogspot.com/
