Community To Gather For 'Dreaming' Festival

On Saturday, Dec. 3

White Salmon will celebrate the sixth annual "I'm Dreaming of a White Salmon" Holiday Festival on Saturday, Dec. 3, with events throughout the day.

This is a fun event for families and friends to share food, learn about traditional crafts, enjoy the work of local artists and musicians, check off a few gifts on the holiday shopping list, and kick off the season with the lighting of the community holiday tree.

Start off the day with "Breakfast with Santa" served from 7:30 to 11 a.m. at Henkle Middle School. Enjoy pancakes, sausage and beverages for $5 per person or $15 per family of five, $3 for seniors and K-8 students, and $2 for preschoolers.

Photos with Santa will be taken from 8 a.m. until noon with prices based on package selection.

This is a great opportunity to pick up some holiday gifts at the book sale and craft bazaar. The event is sponsored by the Henkle Middle School PTO.

Beginning at noon, musicians, artists, carolers and a whole lot of good cheer will fill the shops and streets of downtown White Salmon. Local businesses will be open to share holiday gift ideas and yummy snacks.

From 2 to 5 p.m., visit the White Salmon Valley Community Library for its annual "Holiday Wassail" event. Crafters from the Northwest Regional Spinning Association and Columbia River Quilters' Guild, and fly tier Aaron Kilgore will provide demonstrations. There will also be hands-on craft activities for kids. The Columbia River Quilters' Guild holiday quilt show will be displayed in the Sprint/Baker Gallery.

A wide variety of seasonal snacks and the Friends' of the Library's traditional Wassail punch will be served. Bob Schwarz will play piano throughout the afternoon with a family sing-along at 4:30 p.m.

The popular quartet, "It Takes Four," will serenade visitors at 2 p.m., Columbia High School musicians will play at 3, and Steve Jones playing guitar and harmonica will lead a kids' holiday sing-along at 4.

Stop by the holiday tree at Hi-School Pharmacy after 3 p.m. to warm your hands over one of the fire pits, enjoy some hot chocolate and roast marshmallows for S'mores.

About 5, everyone will gather around the tree for caroling and the lighting of our community holiday tree.

This event is organized by the White Salmon Arts Council.

This year's event is co-sponsored by SDS Lumber Co., Peggy Ohlson Studio, American Aerospace Engineering (AAE), Riverview Community Bank, Sterling Savings, and Innovative Composite Engineering (ICE).
