One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Nov. 18, 2011, at approximately 2:50 p.m. The accident occurred on State Route 14 at milepost 34, five miles west of North Bonneville.
According to the report, Mark A. Small, 54, Camas, was driving his 2006 Mazda 3 westbound, descending a curve to the left. The vehicle lost traction in the slush and snow. The vehicle glanced off the railroad bridge guard rail then crossed into the eastbound lane where it was struck by a 1999 Kenworth semi driven by Roy E. Lewellen, 67, Moses Lake. The semi pushed the Mazda back several feet, where both vehicles came to rest in the mid span on the bridge.
Small suffered right arm, chest and lung injuries. He was transported to Southwest Washington Medical Center. Lewellen was not injured.
Small was charged with speeding too fast for conditions.
The search for David Sherwood, missing since Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, while elk hunting in the Ryan Lake area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, concluded with searchers locating his body on the side of a steep ravine. A private helicopter located Mr. Sherwood at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 15.
A second helicopter with Skamania County Sheriff's Office personnel recovered Sherwood's body in the hour-long recovery operation.
"These past few days have been difficult for those involved in the search effort including the family and friends of Mr. Sherwood," said Skamania County Sheriff Dave Brown. "Our efforts were challenged by both the terrain and the weather. We are grateful for all the assistance provided by the community of Onalaska, the family of Mr. Sherwood and the volunteer search and rescue teams from the region."
The search efforts included nearly 70 family and friends of Sherwood.
