UTC gives OK to Rabano

For rate increase

The state Utilities and Transportation Commission last week signed off on Rabanco Ltd.'s request to increase collection rates for customers of Tri-County Disposal and Allied Waste Services of Klickitat County.

The new rates, which will help Rabanco generate about $123,500 annually in new revenue, take effect today, Dec. 1.

"Staff has completed its review of the company's books and records and has determined the proposed rates are fair, just, reasonable and sufficient," the UTC stated in its order approving the new rates and dismissing an earlier suspension of Rabanco's rate proposals.

Rabanco filed tariff revisions with the UTC on Sept. 16, seeking authorization to raise revenues by about 11.7 percent annually, starting Nov. 1.

In its filing, Rabanco proposed to increase rates 12.6 to 13.3 percent for approximately 3,200 residential customers in Klickitat County. The UTC suspended the filing on Oct. 27 pending further investigation of the companies' finances.

Rabanco's cost of weekly service for one can is increasing from $10.65 a month to $11.99 (or an extra $16.08 per year), and from $14.14 to $15.92 for two-can weekly service (an additional $21.36 a year). The one-can monthly rate is going from $5 to $5.63. Rabanco's last general rate increase request took effect on Jan. 1, 2008.
