The Activity Center was the scene of a grand birthday party for Ella. She and her parents Kevin Schaller and Traci Schaller-Jensen came from Oregon City, Ore., to include grandparents Dwain and Carol Cox in the celebration. Besides the traditional balloons, a fall season theme decorated the main party room with country western music in the background. Family and friends gathered around Ella as she gave a huff and a puff and blew out her eight candles. Refreshments were served after an afternoon of Donkey tail pinning, Pinata bashing, apple bobbing and a real old fashioned hay ride hosted by Nana and Papa Cox. The ride included a tour of Lyle including the point and the cove before heading back for Nana's homemade birthday cake and the candle blowing. Bobbing for Apples was Ella's favorite memory of the day, which she admitted to being one of the winners, and when asked what it meant to be 8 years old she resolutely said, "Growing up...it is a big step for me and my family...and very exciting." We all wish you a happy birthday, Ella.

The Lady Sundowners had their monthly luncheon at Casa El Mirador this week. A buzz of conversation and laughter surrounded the table as they all shared and enjoyed each other's updates.

Don't forget to toss your hat into the ring for a position on the Community Council Board. There are at least three openings but you must declare your intentions by the meeting of Oct. 24 to qualify. This is a good time to step forward and become an active member of Lyle's society. Do you have the right stuff?

Spooks and goblins and "things-that-go-bump-in-the-night" will be the topic of a fundraiser the OLESS are presenting to the public at the Activity Center on Oct. 29. The Columbia Gorge Paranormal Society will not only display the tools they use in order to document paranormal activity, but also explain how they do what they do in order to record and video the paranormal. A "Wine and Appetizer Reception" as well as the one hour lecture will start at 6 p.m., followed by a field trip to the Lyle Hotel where these activities have been reported. Price is $25 a ticket with only 70 tickets available, so get your tickets early. Contact Vern at 365-6828 or Lisa at 365-6828

A thought to remember: Now and then it is good to pause in our pursuit of happiness...and just be happy.
