Class of '12 sponsors firewood weekend

Glenwood News for Oct. 20

By the

For those procrastinators (present company included) the Class of 2012 is sponsoring a Firewood Weekend on Oct. 22 and 23 from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. each day. The Glenwood senior class will issue firewood permits and accept donations to help fund their senior educational trip next spring. Those wishing to get firewood need to bring their own vehicle and saw (no firearms allowed). Drive two miles up Fisher Hill Road and follow the signs that will lead to the firewood cutting site on Hancock Forest Management property. For questions regarding the event, please contact either the Hancock Forest Management Office at 364-3331 or senior class advisor Toni Troh at 364-3438.

There is an extra set of little feet that will soon be pitter pattering around the Darren and Devin Spies home in Vista, Calif.! Daslyn Shea Spies was born on Oct. 14; and weighed 9 pounds and was 19 inches at birth.

Miss Spies joins older siblings Daegan, Donavin and Dawson at the Spies home. Daslyn's paternal grandparents include Darrel and Rhonda Spies and the late Linda Spies; and great-grandparents Harry and Lois Dechand all of Glenwood. Maternal grandparents are John Roberts and Dana Bowman. Congratulations to Darren and Devin on the arrival of their youngest daughter!

The Glenwood Homemakers are planning a Disaster Relief Dinner for Sunday, Nov. 6. The menu includes sloppy joes on homemade buns, salad, dessert and beverages for only $6/adults and $4/children under 10. Half of the proceeds will go to the Salvation Army Worldwide Relief Fund; and half will go to Klickitat County Search and Rescue. The dinner will be held at the school and is scheduled from noon until 6 p.m. That will give those cold, wet hunters a chance to warm up after a big day of chasing elk!

For a number of years, Duane Gahimer has organized a drive in Glenwood for Operation Christmas Child. The program seeks gifts that will fit in a shoebox for underprivileged children around the world. Samaritan's Purse distributes the gifts for boys and girls ages 2 through 14. If you are interested in filling a box or two, and have questions about suitable items to include, please contact Duane at 364-3501. He asks that boxes and a $7 handling charge per box be dropped off at the church by Nov.6 so he can deliver the donations to the White Salmon collection site.

Tom Eldred would like to extend a sincere thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers people extended during and after his recent surgery. According to Laurene "he is doing super great!" Glad to hear the report!

Thank you to everyone who supported the Community Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 16. A great turnout of people enjoyed the delicious turkey dinner and helped build up the account to assist the Glenwood Grange with some needed repairs. Again...thank you to everyone who supported the dinner and fund raiser!
