Visit Maryhill Museum in the fall

Free admission on Sept. 24

Fall is a such a fabulous time to visit Maryhill Museum of Art and the Columbia River Gorge.

The weather is typically sunny and inviting, and there are many activities on tap at the museum.

Saturday, Sept. 24

Smithsonian Museum Day, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution, whose museums offer free admission every day, Museum Day is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket for free.

Saturday, Sept. 24

Family Fun: Make a Fall Watercolor, 1 to 4 p.m.

Children of all ages are invited to create an autumnal woodland scene using watercolor and unique art techniques. On Family Fun days youth 18 and under are admitted to the museum free all day with one paid adult museum admission.

Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 1-2

Car is King Weekend

In the spirit of Maryhill Museum of Art founder Sam Hill, who was an early proponent of roads in the Pacific Northwest, Car is King Weekend pays tribute to autos past and present.

Enjoy an open car show, veggie car races for kids and the highlight of the show -- the grand entry of the vintage race cars competing in the timed Hill Climb race on the Maryhill Loops Road.

Schedule for Saturday: Concours de Maryhill, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Veggie Car Races for Kids, 1 to 3 p.m.; and Drive Maryhill Loops Road, noon to 2 p.m.

Schedule for Sunday: Vintage Race Cars Hill Climb, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spectators can view the Hill Climb from the Highway 97 Overlook and from designated viewpoints along the race route.
