Glenwood News for Aug. 9

By the

Being an eat your dessert first kind of person...I'll share the happy news first this week.

Shaun Roggenkamp and Amy Burgin became Mr. and Mrs. on July 28 at the home of Jerry and Mary Dean in Glenwood. Their beautiful wedding was followed by a reception at the rodeo grounds dance hall. Congratulations and best wishes, Shaun and Amy!

On a sadder note...Mr. George Hathaway passed away last week; and was laid to rest at the Mt. Adams Cemetery in Glenwood on Saturday, Aug. 4. Our thoughts are with Mr. Hathaway's family.

Although this is only the second week in August, the Klickitat County Fair is rapidly approaching. The dates this year for the Barn to be Wild-themed fair are Aug. 23 through 26. Glenwood's 4-H members and leaders have been working hard to prepare their livestock and still-life entries for the fair. A big thank you goes to the leaders who spend many hours guiding the 4-Hers with their projects.

In past years, many generous individuals and businesses have supported the Glenwood Community Market Stock Sale Fund. The coordinators are again seeking donations to support Mt. Adams Community 4-Hers in the market stock sale. Local kids with livestock entries include: beef -- Angel Murillo, Jaylin and Jonathan Throop; swine -- Baylee, Bella and Madi Couch, Dakota and Dalton Jones, and Colton and Kinley Troh. Many former livestock 4-Hers have saved proceeds from the sales of their market animals to supplement their college expenses. If you are interested in making a donation to the Glenwood Community Market Stock Sale Fund, please contact Harry Miller at 364-3427 or at the fair. Thank you for your support of our local 4-Hers!

The Glenwood Homemakers are pleased to offer a Continuing Education Scholarship again this year. This scholarship is for $500 and is open to anyone (except 2012 graduates) who has been a Glenwood resident for at least two years or whose primary residence is Glenwood, has at least 12 post-secondary credit hours and will be attending an accredited two or four year college, university or trade school at least half-time in the fall. Deadline to apply is Sept. 1. To request an application packet, please contact Eileen Fletcher at 541-399-0878 or
