The Tuesday, Aug. 14, search of a North Bonneville home resulted in the recovery of several high value items including computers and electronic tablets, which were scheduled for shipping to an overseas destination later this week.
The search involves the continuing investigation into a reported internet scam involving a 62-year-old North Bonneville woman.
Stolen credit card information is used by individuals overseas to purchase high value items. They have the vendor ship the items to a local address. Promises are made to the individuals at the local address in exchange for them shipping the items received to an overseas address.
"We encourage residents to contact local law enforcement anytime they are approached with a opportunity that seems too good to be true," said Undersheriff Dave Cox. "These scams are rampant right now and our citizens need to be very wary of any such opportunity."
Skamania County residents are requested to call the Skamania County Sheriff's Office at 509-427-9490 if they have reason to believe they may have been contacted or affected in any way through any fraudulent activity. Detective Sergeant Monty Buettner and Detective Tim Garrity are available for group presentations on fraud and internet scams.
