Saturday evening brought a light blanket of snow to enhance the magic of Santa's visit. He was escorted by the caravan of Christmas decorated fire trucks and emergency vehicles from neighboring fire halls such as Wishram, Dallesport/Murdock, Appleton and Lyle. Old St. Nick was greeted by a lively crowd, with children (of all ages) waiting their chance to sit on his knee. Refreshments were served by volunteers from both the OLESS and the Lyle Community Council. Hot cocoa, cookies, candy canes and popcorn were devoured by the crowd. Even Santa himself was caught sampling the goodies from the cookie plate. Look for your child's photos taken that night which are posted at the Lyle Post Office on the bulletin board.

The Sundowner Ladies chose Spooky's in The Dalles for their monthly luncheon on Tuesday, while the whole RV club held its Christmas Potluck at the Columbia Grange on Sunday afternoon. After a brief business meeting and card exchange, a lively game of Blitz provided a friendly rivalry of taunts, moans and jubilation as Jim Brashers came out the overall winner.

The Lions Club would like the public to know that there will be NO Senior Meals on Tuesday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) and NO Senior Meals on Tuesday, Jan. 1 (New Years Day).

On Friday, Dec. 28, the LHS students are hosting a "Free Taco Feed & Game Night" at the school from 5-6:30 p.m. Students will be on hand delivering flyers as well as posting them around town. This is a new program called the "Community Rally Team" that is extending the invitation in an attempt to unify the townspeople and the students with informal "get to know you better" gatherings. Let's get out there and meet these students half way.

A reminder that the Lyle Community Council will not be holding its December meeting as it falls on Christmas Eve. It is your community, so please support it next year by attending an organization that best suits your interest such as the school board, fire department, community council, or Lions, to name a few.

When shopping gets hectic and planning nerves get rattled, take a deep breath and picture in your mind WHO is the real "Reason for the Season." Merry CHRISTmas, everyone.
