Skyline closes diabetes education program

As of Dec. 31, 2011

As of December 31, 2011, the Diabetes Education Program at Skyline Hospital is closed.

Due to budget cuts, cuts in reimbursement from the State of Washington, and Medicaid and Medicare reductions, Skyline has had to make some difficult budgetary decisions -- this is one of the first.

The current Diabetes Education program was not able to sustain itself, even though diabetes in Klickitat County is a major -- and growing -- concern.

Skyline thanks Diabetes Education Specialist Becky Petty for her dedication to the program. She made a big difference in many people's lives.

Skyline and NorthShore Medical Group are currently collaborating on reviewing more effective options to create a sustainable program.
