Angels are out and about this cold spell. Friends have called and neighbors have brought needed supplies as well as one who shoveled a path from my doorway to the street and swept the snow from my satellite dish in order for me to enjoy my favorite programs. Friends and neighbors like this warm the heart and soul. Let it inspire you to be your neighbor's angel and act accordingly. The elderly may not be the only ones in need. Those who cannot drive in these conditions or fear the ice underfoot may need something as simple as a carton of milk or a loaf of bread. Good neighbors are a blessing.

All scheduled meetings and get-togethers are in the hands of the weatherman these days. School was cancelled all week and meetings are being cancelled all across the Gorge. If you have a business or social event you have planned, check with your colleagues to make sure that it is still on -- such as the rescheduling of the January general meeting of the Columbia Gorge Arts & Culture Alliance to accommodate the greatest number of interested people. Please visit the following link to help determine a day to reset the meeting: http://www.doodle.com/r6watkn55g58b5w9, then enter your name and the days you'll be available. The results will be checked regularly and a reschedule notice will be sent out.

Friday Game Night's initial schedule is for 10 consecutive weeks, so there is still time to enjoy the fun and camaraderie. Adults are urged to attend and compete in lively card games or puzzles as well as hot cocoa, tea, cookies and pizza. You can email your thoughts and ideas to Risi Howard at lylegamenight@yahoo.com. There is also a facebook page set up under "Lyle Game Night." So as long as the electricity is on...so is Game Night.

The Sundowners monthly dinner was held at Zim's Brau Haus in The Dalles. The meal was great and the company even greater.

Last Call...for those who wish to participate in the annual planning for OLESS and Lyle Activity Center. The meeting will be Saturday, Jan. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The LAC's agenda will hold strategic and tactical planning, as well as the annual budget and fundraising. Constructive criticisms and positive feedback are always welcomed. A catered lunch is planned so please RSVP lisaconway@gorge.net for location and price of the meal...again, weather permitting.
