The Gorge Owned Business Network (GO!) and Wet Planet Rafting and Kayaking are coming together to present Gorge Green Drinks on Wednesday, July 11, at Wet Planet Rafting and Kayaking in Husum.
Wet Planet's outdoor patio along the White Salmon River is the setting for July's Green Drinks event. The patio is a fitting backdrop for Todd Olson, Project Manager for Pacific Power, to speak about the status of the decommissioning of the Condit Dam.
The dam, standing 3.3 miles from where the White Salmon River empties into the Columbia River, provided electricity to Northwest power customers for almost a century. Because of the requirement and high cost to re-engineer the dam to provide fish passage under a new federal hydroelectric power license, Pacific Power decided that dam removal was more cost effective.
In a highly publicized event, removal of the dam began in October 2011; it's expected to be completed by the fall of 2012.
Participants will also hear about salmon recovery on the White Salmon from Jeanette Burkhardt, a watershed planner for the Yakama Nation Fisheries program.
Join members of Gorge Owned Business Network at this great networking event while enjoying views of the White Salmon River and local refreshments provided by Hood River-based Full Sail Brewing Company and AniChe Cellars.
