160 compete in endurance ride

Glenwood News for June 7

By the

The seventeenth annual Klickitat Trek endurance ride was held in Glenwood last weekend. Event organizer Marilyn Milestone from Ridgefield reported there were 160 total entries in the 100, 50 and 25 mile rides Saturday and Sunday. Riders and their support teams travelled from around the Northwest and Canada to compete in this race. According to Dr. Mike Foss, DVM, the Klickitat Trek is one of about 50 rides held around the Northwest from late March through late October. Glenwood's own Leonard Rolph participates in the endurance ride circuit as well. Last weekend's cool temperatures were ideal for the horses and riders. Marilyn reported no major injuries to either equine or human competitors.

Glenwood was a happening place last Saturday! The PTO sponsored a community bazaar and yard sale in the park next to the grange hall. The Glenwood School Garden/Cooking Club had a plant sale at the greenhouse to help local gardeners get their gardens started. Pioneer Memorial Community Church youth held a yard sale and pancake feed. Several youth baseball games were played on the school baseball diamonds. A bridal shower was held for Miss Ruth Putnam at the grange hall.

Saturday, June 9, will be a big day for Glenwood School eighth graders and seniors. The Glenwood eighth grade promotion will be held at noon. The Glenwood Rodeo Association would like to thank everyone who helped with the food service during the Klickitat Trek endurance ride over the weekend. In preparation for the 78th Ketchum Kalf Rodeo, the Glenwood Rodeo Association will hold a work day beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 10. A potluck lunch will be served at noon followed by a meeting to assign jobs for the rodeo weekend. A kitchen committee meeting will follow the regular rodeo meeting.
