Parade to honor veterans

With Navy Band

After months of applications and negotiations, the 24 piece US Navy Band will lead a parade up Jewett for the 4th of July.

At 1 p.m.,it will march from the Little League fields to Rheingarten Park where it will provide a concert of old favorites, followed by the 35-piece Gorge Winds led by Sam Grotte.

This will be one of the memorable musical events sponsored by the Downtown Business Association.

"We hope all veterans will contact us and plan to be in the parade," said Pam Morneault, one of the organizers. "We will have rides for those unable to walk, and will recognize everyone at the park. Our community -- and our children -- need to know you and we all need to thank you."

The parade will be led by members of the American Legion, and flags will be handed out by Ladies of the Elks.

The rest of the parade is just plain fun. Bring out your bikes, batons and bedpans....decorate the dogs and the kids and don your "red hats." Fill your wheelbarrows with flowers and shine up the lawnmowers. Revamp the Spring Fest floats and load 'em up again.

Morneault has asked those interested to contact her at 493-3362 for more information.
