Lab confirms pertussis case

In Wasco County

North Central Public Health District has been notified that a school-age resident of Wasco County has a lab confirmed case of pertussis (also known as whooping cough).

Close contacts needing to take action have been notified.

Pertussis is a vaccine preventable disease. Vaccination is highly effective against severe disease requiring hospitalization and possibly leading to death. Those most at risk of severe disease are infants under six months of age, older unvaccinated toddlers and children, and pregnant women.

North Central Public Health District strongly recommends vaccination for all eligible persons. Vaccines are available for a fee through your healthcare provider or NCPHD. Children may qualify for reduced cost or free vaccines at NCPHD.

Visit or call North Central Public Health District at 541-506-2600 for more information.
