Skyline's Health Fair to include Women's Health Symposium

Coming this Friday, Saturday

Skyline's annual Health Fair will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, and Saturday, Oct. 13, at Skyline Hospital.

The 31st annual Health Fair will run from 7 a.m. to noon each day.

This year, in addition to the regular health fair offerings such as free or low-cost health screenings, Skyline is expanding the scope of the health fair to include a women's health awareness symposium called Body & Soul. The two-morning event is free and open to all, breakfast and early morning yoga on the helipad included.

More than 200 men and women are expected to attend the health fair. Free screenings include blood pressure, height and weight, and balance testing.

For a nominal fee, participants may have blood drawn for testing that includes a complete blood chemistry screen ($40) and must be paid by cash or check.

Men can include a test for prostate specific antigen (PSA) for an additional $20.

12-hour fasting is required if you are having your blood drawn. Appointments are recommended for the blood screening, but drop-ins are also taken.

In addition, Body & Soul: A Women's Health Awareness Symposium features excellent speakers (starting at 9:30 a.m. each day) such as Ann Kramer of Life Puzzle, Becky Olson of Breast Friends, among others. There will be wellness information and informative poster symposium discussions with nutritionists, physicians, masseuses, acupuncturists, alternative medicine doctors, and more.

The morning's schedule can be found on Skyline's website at

Pre-registration is recommended for blood chemistry, digital mammogram, or bone density screenings. Just call Skyline Hospital at 493-1101. Drop-ins welcome on a space available basis, or just plan on making an appointment for a mammogram at the health fair.

For those who do not have insurance coverage, information will be available on how to receive free or discounted mammogram screenings.
