Here in Trout Lake, a pall of woodsmoke hangs in the valley each morning, as the Cascade Creek fire continues to scorch timber on the slopes of Mt. Adams. Plumes of tractor dust also fill the air, as farmers reap their final harvests of the season. Trout Lake students are back to school, to the hubbub of homework, clubs, and sports. While the sun still shines and the days are still warm, the morning chill and the faint smell of decaying leaves signal the transition into autumn. Farewell, good summer -- until we meet again.

A special Trout Lake Area Business Association meeting will be held at the Trout Lake Grange hall on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. Key topics of discussion will be the Mt. Adams Bike Country Bike Tour review and pre-planning for next year's tour, and a proposed new welcome sign for Trout Lake. All are welcome to attend the meeting.

Trout Lake High School students will be attending Outdoor Education ("Exploring the Giant") from Wednesday to Friday, while at the same time seventh and eighth graders will be attending OMSI outdoor school.
