Please consider donating that old prom or formal dress taking up space in your closet to "Abby's Closet." The mission of Abby's Closet is to inspire confidence and respect in high school women by providing free formal gowns for prom and other memorable events. These dresses should be new or gently used, clean and in good condition, fashionable, and appropriate. Prom, bridesmaid or other special occasion dresses are perfect. Donations will be accepted at the Lyle High School until Feb. 8. I personally will venture to add that I will volunteer my small amount of expertise in alterations if needed. For more information call the school, 365-2211.
My last week's column about the school levy was a bit confusing to a reader as to what I meant about a "financial crisis" if it failed. What I explained to the party, and will now to you, is this: "What I understand is that if the levy continues to be voted down then it might have to close....am I right? Won't the state withhold funds? With no funding from the state...won't it have to close? Then the parents will probably be moving to where their children can get an education...and that would be a financial crisis to the town of Lyle...as far as I'm concerned...Or am I missing something here?"
The party was gracious enough to answer that it did clear up my meaning and I felt much better. I hope to never mislead anyone in my ramblings but I may not make myself as clear as I think I am. If ever there is a question please do not hesitate to contact me so we can clear things up.
I received some unwelcome news about a dear person that I thought highly of...Jeff Eiesland. He was a giving person, and a strong community supporter. To name a few, he was a volunteer firefighter, fire commissioner, community council member, economic development board member, school board member (he listened to the community's concerns), school sports coach, and a friend to so many. All who knew him will miss him. My sympathy and prayers go out to the family.
My sympathy also goes out to the family of a lifelong Lyle resident Dick McNabb, who has also passed on. He too will be truly missed.
