Ecumenical Ministries plans annual celebration

On Feb. 10

Gorge Ecumenical Ministries (GEM) will host its annual celebration on Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. at Hood River Valley Christian Church, 975 Indian Creek Rd.

The keynote speaker will be Rev. John Boonstra, Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ, White Salmon.

He will speak on the topic: "Building a movement of the Faithful."

GEM will present the 2012 Inspired Service and Action Award to Andy Wade in celebration of his service to the Hood River Warming Shelter. Wade's compassionate commitment has brought the vision of a warming shelter to reality through his service volunteering, coordinating and training volunteers, and mastering the shelter website.

In addition, GEM, whose leadership was instrumental in establishing FISH, Habitat for Humanity, the Emergency Vouchers Program, and the Warming Shelter, and who provides ongoing support to these missions, will honor volunteers who have served their communities through these organizations in the past year.

GEM is an interfaith association of communities of faith that works to build community in the Columbia Gorge through service, public policy, advocacy, and education on the pressing social, economic, and environmental issues of our time.
