Organizers for the White Salmon Farmers' Market decided last week that they will be moving the market's date and location for the coming summer in the hopes of making it a bigger and better event.
The market was previously held outside the White Salmon Guitar Company on Jewett Boulevard, which is owned by Craig Wilson, who is the manager of the farmers' market. The event was held on Wednesdays in the summer, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Next year though, the market will move about a 30-second walk down Jewett Boulevard to Feast Market, and will occur on Tuesdays at the same time.
Autumn Quigley, media manager for the White Salmon Farmers' Market, said the decision was made after a public meeting was held last week at the local library to discuss the future of the event.
"Ultimately, it was decided to move the market from Wednesdays to Tuesdays in order to include the Gorge Grown mobile market, which buys from local farmers and works with the vendors that do attend to fill in the gaps in variety," she explained. "The locale was changed to the Feast parking lot with the possibility of the lot in front of the White Salmon Guitar Company as overflow for vendors' booths as needed."
Other locations that were considered included Rheingarten Park in White Salmon as well as Daubenspeck Park in Bingen. Quigley said locations were evaluated based on "visibility and accessibility, parking, shade, child safety and play areas and the inclusion of hot food vendors."
Another feature of this year's market? Alcohol.
"An exciting perk to holding the market in front of Feast is the fact that beer and wine vendors will have the ability to hold tastings and Feast as the holder of the liquor license will be able to serve the drinks," Quigley said. "Of course, a certain amount of regulation will have to be observed and Feast will have a designated drink area."
The White Salmon Farmers' Market will begin Tuesday, July 2 and will run until Tuesday, Sept. 24. Those interested in helping support the market can contact Craig Wilson at email@example.com or 509-254-1834.
